Know Your Status Grant

The Know Your Status grant is a substance abuse and HIV prevention program granted to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Medical School, with South Texas College receiving a sub-contract. This allows our STC Peer Educator’s to provide education on substance abuse, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) at all South Texas College campuses across the Rio Grande Valley.

Peer Educators raise awareness by participating in campus activities such as in-class presentations, workshops, and campus events to promote awareness on substance abuse, HIV and HCV prevention and reduction of HIV/HCV infections. The Know Your Status grant also provides free HIV/AIDS rapid testing, along with providing opportunity for interactive and educational outreach activities which positively impact student’s health. The overall goal of the Know Your Status grant is to raise awareness on sexual health and preventive measures by empowering students and our local community to make well-informed decisions about their health and wellbeing along with positively influencing healthy campus culture.

Please complete presentation request if you would like a Peer Educator to come out to your event or to host a workshop for students.
