Texas Reskilling Support Fund Grant Program

The Texas Reskilling Support Fund Grant Program, Third Round Funding, originates from the allocation of funds provided to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund. GEER dollars stem from the U.S. Department of Education’s administration of the Education Stabilization Fund in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020, and further funded under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act and American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

Texas Reskilling Support Fund Grant Program - Round 3

South Texas College was awarded another $112,500 grant funds from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for the Texas Reskilling Support Fund Grant Program, Third Round Funding. The grant aims to support displaced Texas workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic who need to reskill or upskill to return to the workforce and Texas students who were previously enrolled at STC for a certificate or degree but have not completed it.

GEER dollars stem from the U.S. Department of Education’s administration of the Education Stabilization Fund in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020, and further funded under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act and American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

Award Amounts

Eligible students may receive up to $2,500 per semester to help cover tuition and fees. Funding is limited to tuition and fees that are not covered by state or institutional financial aid. Students who demonstrate Title IV eligibility may be awarded up to $500 irrespective of financial need. Awards may not exceed an eligible student’s demonstrated financial need.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Texas resident eligible for in-state tuition
  • Have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Be eligible for federal Title IV aid
  • Have affirmed they were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Be enrolled in an eligible academic degree program or short-term workforce credential program
  • Have not been enrolled in an accredited postsecondary institution in the previous academic (long) semester or previous six months
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements

Students who qualify will be awarded first-come; first-serve based on available funds. After submitting the Texas Reskilling Support Fund Grant Survey, students will be notified via email if they meet grant eligibility and were awarded.
