Student Roles and Responsibilities

  • Be prepared for your advising session and participate by preparing questions and asking for clarification.
  • Submit requirements to admissions: Official copies of transcripts from all previous colleges, change of major form and other required documents.
  • Commit to follow through on advising recommendations in a timely way.
  • Utilize advising tools: DegreeWorks, Starfish, JagNet and STC website to gather information and track your academic progress.
  • Use appropriate college resources and seek help when needed.
  • Explore academic options and be open-minded about choices goals and backup plans.
  • Be aware of key dates personally, academically and financially.
  • Develop decision making skills. Take control of your education by reviewing the catalog, course offerings, degree requirements, college policies, procedures and requirements.

  • Provide information about STC programs, academic policies and procedures, CORE curriculum and graduation requirements.
  • Be accessible, understanding, approachable and respond to students in a timely way.
  • Assist students with exploring their program of study, educational and career goals.
  • Be knowledgeable about resources/support services available to students and make appropriate referrals when needed.
  • Develop Student Educational Plan in DegreeWorks.
  • Maintain confidentiality by adhering to FERPA standards (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
  • Engage in continuing professional development activities to keep abreast of the research, theories, legislation, policies and developments that affect their programs and services.
